FDA approves first major brand filler for upper face

Juvederm Voluma XC, a filler from Allergan Aesthetics, has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the correction of moderate to severe nasolabial folds in adults 21 years of age and older. This approval follows positive clinical study data, in which the majority of patients who received the filler reported overall satisfaction with the treatment. In this randomized controlled study, 112 patients were assigned to the treatment group and received injections in the temples, while 58 patients were assigned to a no-treatment control group. The efficacy was demonstrated in the clinical study. Allergan Aesthetics is committed to developing the skills of professionals. “I am excited to begin training our injectors in the use of Juvéderm Voluma XC to address moderate to severe nasolabial folds,” said Deirdre Hooper, MD, AMI Dermatologist and Trainer.
