Guidelines for post-Botox (Botulinum Toxin) procedure care.
The Botulinum Toxin (Botox) program isn't just about injecting and being done with it; post-treatment self-care is key.
- The bump after injection will disappear in 2-3 hours. Try moving the injected muscle, or if you had a Botulinum Toxin jaw reduction treatment, chew gum for 20 minutes to help the Botox spread better into the muscle.
- It is recommended to blow-dry your hair from the back or use a cool air setting, and avoid washing your face with warm water for 2 weeks.
- Avoid vitamins, alcohol, and fermented foods for 2 weeks before and after the injection to reduce the chance of re-swelling and potential inflammation or infection. Seafood is only allowed if it has been thoroughly cooked.
- Avoid pressing, massaging, or rubbing the face in the area where the procedure was performed.
- Avoid lying flat or tilting your head back for the first 4 hours to prevent the medication from refluxing to other unwanted muscles.
- Avoid procedures or activities involving heat for at least one month.
Beauty is not just a fleeting transformation, but the art of meticulous self-care.
What to do in the first 4 hours after injection.
The first 20 minutes after injection.
- Move the muscles at the injection site / Make a facial expression. Smiling, frowning, or gently moving the injected area can help the Botox spread more evenly throughout the muscles and work more effectively.
- If you've had filler injections to reduce your jawline, you should chew gum for 20 minutes. Chewing gum continuously for 20 minutes helps to engage the jaw muscles, allowing Botox to distribute evenly into those muscles.
- If you get forehead filler injected, you don't need to make any facial expressions. In this case, it's important to keep the filler in place. Repeated forehead movements may cause the filler to shift from its desired position.
First 4 hours after injection
- Avoid lying flat or reclining your head. Lying down initially may cause the medication to flow back to other muscles that are not being treated, which could result in drooping eyelids or dysfunction of surrounding muscles.
- The bump will disappear in 2-3 hours. Slight swelling or bumping at the injection site is normal and nothing to worry about. It will gradually subside within 2-3 hours after the injection.
Things to do in the first 2 weeks.
- Avoid vitamins, alcohol, fermented foods, and pickled fish. These substances may trigger inflammation, bruising, or increase the risk of infection at the injection site.
- Seafood must be cooked thoroughly. Raw or undercooked seafood carries a risk of bacterial contamination that may trigger inflammation and affect the recently treated area.
- Avoid washing your face with warm water / Use cool air to blow-dry your hair or blow-dry from the back. Heat from warm water or a hair dryer may accelerate the spread of the medication outside the desired area and reduce the effectiveness of Botox.
- Avoid pressing, massaging, or rubbing the injection site. Pressure or massage may cause Botox to shift away from the target muscle, potentially resulting in undesirable outcomes.
Things to do in the first month.
For the first month after filler injection, avoid all activities or procedures involving heat. Avoid saunas, facial massages, or any heat-related procedures, as heat accelerates the breakdown of Botox, shortening its duration and potentially reducing its overall effectiveness. Furthermore, heat stimulates blood circulation at the injection site, increasing the risk of bruising and swelling.
First aid for skin care and bruising.
- Apply the gel provided at the clinic, morning and evening. Apply a thin layer only to the bruised area. The gel will help reduce inflammation and promote faster fading of bruises.
- On the first night, refrain from applying cream, but you can wash your face as usual. Avoiding creams on the first night allows the skin and pores in the injection area to recover without being irritated by foreign substances.
- The day after filler injection, you can apply makeup and cream as usual. After the first night, you can resume your normal skincare and makeup routine.
Expected timeframe for seeing results
- Wrinkle reduction: Results visible in 3-7 days / Full results in 4 weeks. You will notice your skin becoming smoother within the first week, and the most noticeable results will be seen after one month.
- The jaw becomes softer and smaller in 2 weeks / fully in 4 weeks. The jaw muscles will begin to relax and the face will start to look slimmer in the second week, with full results visible after one month.
- Reduce sweating and slim down your calves: See full results in 4 weeks. Both of these programs require time for the medication to take full effect before noticeable changes are seen.
